Wires

Jacob Dwyer, 2011 | BFI Future Film (United Kingdom)

In Wires a man wakes up on a rooftop with no recollection of who or where he is. Accompanied by “track one” from an album called Desert Blues, playing from a disk-man in his pocket, the man discovers a sequence of photographs strung up to dry. As he moves from one to the next the man begins to remember things: a Moroccan stuntman called Mustafa Danger, the Newspaper carriers of western Kenya, the tourists of Niagara Falls. Contextualizing these images of the past not by place or chronology but through their relationship to wires the man is able to remember what he was doing on the rooftop. After all is concluded the question still remains, did the photographs prompt his memory or become his memory?
