Rising prices at the brides market

In the oldest market of Sofia, Bulgaria, they sell fruit and vegetables. But besides these products, it’s also possible to sell your gypsy daughter. Girls aged twelve to sixteen are sold here to the highest bidder. The parents of eighteen year old Violeta admit that they are running 20 years behind in time and they still hold on to this tradition of selling their daughter at the market. But, while looking for a guy willing to buy their daughter, Violeta’s parents are confronted with modern times; the economic crisis has found its way into the brides market. Prices for daughters have dropped tremendously and gypsy men are no longer offering the price the Violeta’s dad hopes to get for his daughter. Made by Milena Boudinova.
