Bridy's Piece

Bridy Purcell, 2012 | BFI Future Film (United Kingdom)

'What is the best part of being a traveller?' 'Freedom... Being able to go anywhere I want, and to come anywhere I want... A place to come back to. Wherever you put your jacks down is home.' 'Bridy's Piece' by Bridy Purcell (1997) gives an honest look into the life of a young Irish traveller with a brilliant heart and mind. Through a range of interviews and intimate to-camera pieces, Bridy explores traveller attitudes to education, marriage, home, gender roles and freedom, whilst touching on the double life she leads on and off site with her non-traveller friends. Produced by the British Film Institute in 2012 as part of a media literacy organisational bursary scheme with Phil Regan Creative and Tina Purcell. This work is part of Doc Next Network media collection www.docnextnetwork.org
