The Ruska Street Market
Common work, 2013 | Association of Creative Initiatives ę (Poland)
In Lublin - a Polish city close to the Ukrainian border, there is a market. Languages and smells get mixed there and the best-selling product are Ukrainian cigarettes. The market is located on Ruska Street. It is there that a group of Remapping Europe participants asks sellers about their recipes for two of the most popular dishes on the Polish tables. Every single Polish housewife knows the recipes for pierogi ruskie and Ukrainian borscht. The participants of the Lublin edition of Remapping Europe gathered the recipes from Polish Ukrainian and Russian people as part of one of their exercises. They asked only about these two Polish dishes that are called and prepared differently in Ukraine.
