Aylesbury Estate // London housing crisis #nopumo
NO PUMO / BFI, 2015 | BFI (United Kingdom)
"Often the poorest people in our country have been forgotten by government. They've been left out of the growing prosperity, told that they were not needed, ignored by government except very often for the purposes of blaming them ... I don't want there to be any forgotten people in the Britain that we want to build." It's been 18 years since Tony Blair gave this speech from the Aylesbury Estate in Southwark, an estate that has since been destroyed to make way for luxury housing. Since then the average private rent in London has risen to twice the national average, and in the last 2 years this average has gone up by the equivalent of £182. Pack Up, Move Out, No! is a campaign to raise awareness of the London housing crisis, and to encourage people to fight back for truly affordable housing. This short remix about the London Housing crisis was created by participants of the 2015 Doc Next Network #ReclaimtheCommons Lab in the UK.
